Last summer I took a break from my usual traveling. My husband and I decided to visit Wales to get a rare break together. Wales isn’t a country with a big tourist profile, and many people don’t think of it as an option, but in summer, when the weather is phenomenal it is a cultural and historic enchantment.
Bodysgallen Hall & Spa’s history dates back to the 13th century, however the accouterments are specifically modern. The gardens are fascinating and well kept. It almost feels like walking through a gothic romance novel. You and your fellow travelers will have fun getting lost in them. And from February to June you can opt for a garden tour with the head gardener.
Bodysgallen is situated in the midst of several castles should you want to take a tour. These included: Beaumaris, Caerfarnon, Harlech, and Conwy castles. There’s also Snowdon Mountain Railway, and Snowdownia Mountain Park. Surfers can also have some relaxation, because Bodysgallen features the world’s first artificial surfing lake. My favorite, though, was Zip World where you can zipline across the peaks of Wales.
The spa treatments, too, will beguile you. Bodysgallen offers everything from nails to massages to aromatherapy. After one session you won’t be surprised as to why it’s named “Bodys”gallen. But seriously, they do provide a wide range of options that go from the more traditional to the more modern and progressive.
And though the food of Wales (and England in general) might bare a less than sterling reputation; the dining here was exquisite. They offer a breakfast, lunch, and dinner; even a fine dining and a less formal option for dinner. All in all, Bodygallen was a refreshing, restful, and illuminating excursion to Wales.
