One week ago my husband and I went to a showing of The Grand Budapest Hotel, which is partly about a secret network of concierges passing information – something most viewers probably don’t realize really exists! The movie got me thinking about all the fun movie hotels out there and the connection movies have with real locations. Whether it’s eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp or visiting Harry Potter Land, movies influence the world we live in.
One of the most famous movie series in the world centers around the prolific murdering spy: James Bond. The Seven Hotel Paris takes the decades and nearly 50 films worth of content to build the best 007 themed hotel in the world. It also double (0’s) as a 4-star resort with all the comforts and luxuries you would expect. All the rooms are flashy with neon over dark colors. Murals sit above each bed with images influenced from the movies and the trippy credit sequence that begins each film. Ask for a room with a view of the Eiffel tower and load up A View To a Kill on your TV; pretend your James Bond in Paris trying to stop a madman from destroying Silicon Valley. It sure beats being a tourist!
What if you could, for a minimum of 2 nights, stay in one of your favorite childhood stories? The Wonderland House in Brighton will let you do just that. Pretend that you really are Alice in this Luxury house complete with tea party room, bed rooms themed around characters, and many of magical cakes. Unfortunately, the cakes only have one special ability: to make you larger around the stomach region.
If you really want to cool down, you should stay at the Hotel De Glace in Quebec. Which is a hotel made from a glacier. As such, it is extremely cold inside. If you can’t stand sleeping in such weather, then you can simply stop by for a tour and see their Disney Frozen exhibit which includes characters and sets from the movie in their natural chilly habitat.
