If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that when I get the chance to take a proper break, instead of traveling on business, I love to get out into the wilds and enjoy nature. Few places are quite as satisfying for that as Reino Fungi Lodge.
I would describe the Reino Fungi Lodge as more of a tree house than a hotel. The entire structure is unabashedly made of wood. Oh, and it’s shaped like a mushroom. I’m pretty sure where the Fungi in the name comes from. Thankfully I did not spot any real fungus in the hotel. However, there are plenty of amenities in the hotel you will appreciate. Great showers, heated pools, spa service, and restaurants. This is one of those hotels where it would be great to either take your kids as there are many activities they would enjoy, but you could also relax in nature without them.
The hotel is located within a forest near the river Rio Fuy which is connected to the grand mountainous lake Lago Pirihueico. There are two small towns nearby Neltume and Puerto Fuy, both are quaint and delightful in this forest. The nature of this area is definitely the main draw.
From the hotel it is easy to hike into the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. Take a walk through the lush Valdivian forest. At the river you will see many picturesque waterfalls and crystal clear streams. If you are an aspiring ornithologist, there are numerous unique bird species to see in the forest. If you are feeling truly adventurous, you can visit the nearby Shoshuenco Volcano. It is capped by glaciers and currently dormant so no need to worry about random eruptions.
Take a trip to rural Chile to take advantage of the wondrous natural forest where you can stay in a room built into a giant wooden mushroom.
